A Wesleyan Advent Experience
In 1741, John Wesley preached his famous sermon entitled “The Almost Christian” in which he encouraged people to follow Christ wholeheartedly, striving to be altogether Christians. In Almost Christmas, authors explore how we can make the same commitment to Christ during Advent, connecting our Wesleyan heritage with the traditional Advent themes of Peace, Hope, Love, and Joy. This is a “deep spiritual dive” into the active practice of waiting for Jesus to come.
No matter how hard even devoted Christians try to make Christmas enough, we harbor the gnawing sense that something’s missing. We can be like Dennis the Menace, after opening his mountain of Christmas gifts, when he stands there, arms outstretched and yelling at the top of his lungs, ‘Is that all?’
This study will show us ways to move from “almost Christian” to altogether Peace, Hope, Love, and Joy, which really will be enough.
If you wish to participate in this study, please register for one of these groups.
