An event every week that begins at 10:30 am on Sunday, repeating until March 29, 2020
September 22 – March 29, 2020 | Sunday | 10:30 – 11:30 am
The world’s most famous book is complex, and there are numerous Bibles interpreted within diverse religious traditions. How, when and why did the book come to grow in these forms? How has it influenced its readers? The first focus of this video lecture series is antiquity, when the biblical texts were written and gathered together. Next will be the process of translation and interpretation in early communities. The period of the reformation, printing press and the Bible in English followed by the recovery of ancient manuscripts and the rise of critical historical scholarship will follow. Lecturer Luke Timothy Johnson, Ph.D. is a New Testament scholar and early Christian historian at Emory University.
