The Acts of the Apostles and the Origins of Christianity
Mondays | April 19 – May 10 | 7:00 – 8:30 pm
The book of Acts is unique within the New Testament as the only book of its kind. It is part history, part biography, part apology, and part epic adventure. In this class, we will follow Acts’ journeys from the small group of Jesus-followers gathered in Jerusalem in the wake of Jesus’ crucifixion to the movement’s spread across the Roman Empire and its many encounters with Roman power.
How did these people form a community, how did they think about salvation and belonging, and how did they succeed in launching such a lasting social movement? What can Acts tell us about our own era, with its complicated divisions and contested communities?
