Grapes of Wrath

The Grapes of Wrath is an “Exodus” story about the Joads’ flight from the hardship and hopelessness of Oklahoma’s Dust Bowl in search of a better life in the “Promised Land” of California. On their journey through the “desert,” they endure hunger, breakdowns, death, the apathy and cruelty of strangers and systems, and ever-diminishing hope. And yet they somehow persevere, daring to choose a way forward instead of turning back. The novel is an enduring meditation on the plight of today’s immigrants, the growing threats of climate change and ecological disaster, and how economic desperation and xenophobia fuel injustice and political extremism.
